  • About

Maya Guglin, a native of Russia, graduated from Volgograd State Medical University in 1984. She completed her residency at Case Western Reserve University in Ohio and her fellowship at University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey.

A frequent presenter at the American Heart Association, American College of Cardiology and the Heart Failure Society of America, her most important academic contributions are:

    • Concept of congestion as a leading factor in the pathogenesis of heart failure.
    • Key role of diuretics in treatment of heart failure.
    • Ultrafiltration in diuretic-resistant heart failure
    • Intravenous nitroglycerin, including high doses, in refractory heart failure including cardiogenic shock.
    • Similarity of neurogenic stunned myocardium and takotsubo (stress-induced) cardiomyopathy
    • Congestion as a pivotal factor of cardiorenal syndrome.
    • Connection of atrial fibrillation and heart failure.
    • Trastuzumab-induced cardiomyopathy.

    Personal Statement

In the inpatient service I see all kinds of heart failure, heart transplant, VAD (ventricular assist device, which is a prosthetic pump) and many kinds of complications. My key philosophy is simple: I will try to assess the individual situation of every patient and see what I can offer. We are able to offer solutions that are often unavailable in a wider network of cardiologists or providers of all different kinds. That's what sets my subspecialty apart from overall general cardiology.
