Dr. James Keck provides full spectrum primary care with an emphasis on health promotion. He enjoys caring for families and patients of all ages and has a particular interest in the health of children, adolescents, and older adults.
Keck grew up in Minnesota and attended medical school at the University of Minnesota where he completed an internship in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics. He trained in family medicine at the Tufts-affiliated Carney Hospital program in Boston. He is a graduate of the Johns Hopkins General Preventive Medicine residency program. He received advanced training in epidemiology as an Epidemic Intelligence Service Officer with the CDC in Alaska. He has substantial international experience, having worked for two years in Malawi with Partners In Health and as a WHO consultant in Ecuador.
Family medicine is a beautiful specialty. At its heart is the care of the whole person - mind, body, and spirit. Long-lasting relationships across the age spectrum are unique to family medicine. A great day for me is visiting my 104 year-old nursing home patient after caring for a newborn and her family.
My philosophy of care is firmly rooted in health promotion and disease prevention. I believe in the biopsychosocial model of care that embraces an individual's psychology and social setting as much as the biology of their illness. I minimize the medicalization of health issues that are often best treated with tincture of time, a healthier lifestyle, and a positive outlook. At the same time I take a highly evidence-based and patient-centered approach to care and will closely listen to your concerns and preferences.
