Nursing Career Center

The Nursing Career Center is available to all UK HealthCare nurses, nurse administrators, Nursing Care Technicians (NCTs) and UK College of Nursing students. We offer assistance for all phases of a career.

Our services include:

  • Polishing a resume or CV
  • Preparing for an interview or refining interview skills  
  • Exploring educational options including ADN to MSN Bridge, ADN, MSN, DNP and PhD programs

  • Group career planning presentations given by Sue H. Strup, MSEd, MSN

    HYDEN, Ky. -- Susan Stone, DNSc, CNM, FACNM, FAAN, president of Frontier Nursing University (FNU), was officially inducted as the new president of the American College of Nurse-Midwives (ACNM) at the organization’s annual meeting on May 24, 2018. ACNM is the professional association that represents certified nurse-midwives (CNMs) and certified midwives (CMs) in the United States. With roots dating to 1929, ACNM is the oldest women’s health care organization in the United States. The organization’s elected leaders play an important role in guiding the midwifery profession.     The UK Nursing Career Center is available to all RNs, non-licensed nursing personnel including Nursing Care Technicians, SRNA’s, Clinical Service Technicians, LPN’s, Phlebotomists, etc. and the UK College of Nursing students in two great locations: UK Chandler Hospital, H-172 right by Nurse Recruitment; and UK Good Samaritan Hospital, as of Aug. 1 2016, Hospital Administration Ground Floor C012B. There are many great ways to get important information about applying for nursing care technician, student externships, professional RN job searches or exploring various graduate schools by using the nursing career services that are available through the UK Nursing Career Center.

    If you are a UK BSN student, you will want to take advantage of the weekly group sessions. These are offered during the fall and spring semesters, as well as during the summer.  To sign up, please email Sue H. Strup, MSEd, MSN at 

    Group resume and cover letter writing sessions: These group sessions are available from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Monday. Bring a draft of your updated resume and cover letter to the group session. You can have your questions answered and leave with a critique worksheet to help you fine-tune your resume for your upcoming job search. This information will also include out-of-state job searches and how to develop a targeted resume for various specialty nursing positions, such as pediatrics, emergency department, ICUs or oncology.

    Group interviewing strategies sessions: These group sessions meet from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., every Wednesday. You will discuss interview etiquette, how to dress for success, how to prepare for behavioral-based interview questions, what questions you will want to ask a Patient Care Manager, and much more.   

    Monthly Nursing Lunch and Learn Workshops: These workshops are open to all UK RNs, Nursing Care Technicians and UK Nursing Students who want to explore various nursing career opportunities and graduate schools. They’re offered at 11:30 a.m. on the third Thursday of every month in UK Albert B. Chandler Hospital. Topics of focus include how to become an APRN, CRNA, nurse educator, nurse researcher, nurse informaticist and much more. Registration is free and available for the first 25 participants by emailing Sue Strup at

    UK Career Nurse Consultant Sue H. Strup, MSEd, MSN, leads the center. Strup has more than 23 years of experience directing career centers at UK, Drexel University and Thomas Jefferson University. Prior to her work in career services, Strup served as a cardiac intensive care nurse at Indiana University Medical Center and as a nursing research assistant at the IU School of Nursing. She has taught hundreds of career planning workshops and seminars, led numerous presentations, and authored many career-related articles and publications.
