There isn’t a known way to prevent cancerous neck masses. However, you can take steps to reduce your risk level.
You can:
- Quit smoking or using other tobacco products
- Reduce your use of alcohol
HPV, also called human papillomavirus, is a sexually transmitted infection. It’s a factor in many head and neck cancers. The majority of sexually active people have HPV. However, HPV can be prevented with a vaccine that is given before someone becomes sexually active — usually during adolescence.
