Acupuncture is an ancient, traditional Chinese medicine technique that has spread throughout the world. During acupuncture, multiple thin needles are inserted along special pathways in the body to re-balance the flow of energy (qi). The pathways are traditionally known as meridians.
It is believed that the needles activate small neurons that lead the spinal cord and brain to release the body’s own pain-suppressing chemicals. The National Institute of Health has said that acupuncture is an acceptable component of a comprehensive pain management program for the treatment of fibromyalgia, myofascial pain syndrome, headaches, low back pain, arthritis and tennis elbow.
In our acupuncture room, our provider offers both traditional acupuncture and electroacupuncture for chronic pain conditions.
