UK Gill Heart & Vascular Institute has received the Get With The Guidelines®-Resuscitation Gold Award for implementing high-quality care procedures for patients who suffer cardiac arrests in the hospital. The Get With The Guidelines-Resuscitation program was developed with the goal to save lives of those who experience in-hospital cardiac arrests. Hospitals that receive the award consistently follow the most up-to-date, research-based guidelines for treatment. Guidelines include following protocols for patient safety, medical emergency team response, effective and timely resuscitation (CPR), and post-resuscitation care.

Gill earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval™ for its VAD program by demonstrating compliance with The Joint Commission’s national standards for healthcare quality and safety in VAD care. This certification award recognizes UK’s dedication to maintaining state-of-the-art standards. Gill first received the Gold Seal in 2009 and has maintained certification since that time, most recently obtaining recertification in December 2017.

The ELSO Excellence in Life Support Award recognizes the Gill ECLS program for having processes, procedures and systems in place that promote excellence and exceptional care in extracorporeal membrane oxygenation.

ELSO’s goal is to recognize and honor ECLS programs that reach the highest level of performance, innovation, satisfaction and quality.

The ELSO Award signifies to patients and families a commitment to exceptional patient care. It also demonstrates to the healthcare community an assurance of high-quality standards, specialized equipment and supplies, defined patient protocols, and advanced education of all staff members.

Gill’s ECHO Lab has been continuously accredited by the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission for Echocardiography Laboratories (ICAEL) since 1999, making it the longest accredited program in the state. The faculty and staff participate in numerous training programs and routinely publish in top-tier journals. Two of the faculty (Vincent Sorrell and Mikel Smith) have received the Richard Popp Excellence in Teaching Award from the American Society of Echocardiography. All of our interpreting cardiologists are certified by the National Board of Echocardiography.

The UK Vascular Laboratory is accredited by the Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Vascular Laboratories (ICAVL). This accreditation recognizes excellence in patient care as well as high levels of quality in testing for the diagnosis of vascular disease.

The Gill Exercise Physiology and Nuclear Lab is accredited by Intersocietal Accreditation Commission for Nuclear Laboratories (ICANL). This accreditation ensures high quality patient care by requiring us to assess and improve every aspect of daily operation of the nuclear lab.

The UK HealthCare Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation Program has been certified by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR). The program was recognized for its commitment to improving the quality of life by enhancing standards of care. Certified AACVPR programs are recognized as leaders in the field of cardiovascular and pulmonary rehabilitation because they offer the most advanced practices available.
