COVID-19 vaccinations are provided by UK HealthCare completely free to consumers.
On Sept. 24, the CDC made the following recommendations regarding third-shot COVID-19 vaccination boosters:
- People 65 years and older and residents in long-term care settings should receive a booster shot of Pfizer-BioNTech’s COVID-19 vaccine at least 6 months after their Pfizer-BioNTech primary series,
- People aged 50–64 years with underlying medical conditions should receive a booster shot of Pfizer-BioNTech’s COVID-19 vaccine at least 6 months after their Pfizer-BioNTech primary series,
- People aged 18–49 years with underlying medical conditions may receive a booster shot of Pfizer-BioNTech’s COVID-19 vaccine at least 6 months after their Pfizer-BioNTech primary series, based on their individual benefits and risks, and
- People aged 18-64 years who are at increased risk for COVID-19 exposure and transmission because of occupational or institutional setting may receive a booster shot of Pfizer-BioNTech’s COVID-19 vaccine at least 6 months after their Pfizer-BioNTech primary series, based on their individual benefits and risks.
Anyone who is eligible who wishes to receive a third-shot booster should register for an appointment using the green REQUEST A VACCINATION button above. You must bring your CDC vaccination card or proof of vaccination to the appointment. (Lost your card? Request a copy.) Note that replacement cards cannot be issued at the booster appointment.
Beginning Oct. 4, vaccinations will be given at University Health Pharmacy, Kentucky Clinic Pharmacy, Turfland Retail Pharmacy and the new Bluegrass Clinic Pharmacy, 3101 Beaumont Centre Circle. Hours will vary by location (see above). Walk-ins will not be accepted – you must register and sign up for an appointment time. )

UK HealthCare is now offering third-dose booster shots of the Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna COVID-19 vaccines for solid-organ transplant recipients and other immunocompromised individuals, in accordance with guidance from the FDA and the CDC. Reigstration is now open; you may register here or by clicking the green REQUEST A VACCINATION button located on this page.
Eligible individuals age 18 and over who have previously received two doses of either the Pfizer or the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine are eligible to request a third dose. People should talk to their healthcare provider about their medical condition and whether getting an additional dose is appropriate for them. Additional information about who should receive a third-dose booster vaccination is available on the CDC website.
Those who are eligible should wait at least 28 days after your second vaccination before receiving the third. As long as supply allows it, you should receive the same vaccine for your third dose as your previous doses. For instance, if you previously completed two doses of the Pfizer vaccine, you should also receive the Pfizer vaccine for your third dose. If there is a supply disruption and the only mRNA vaccine available is the one you did not complete the two-dose series on, then you will be allowed to receive this alternative formulation for your third dose.
You must bring your CDC vaccination card or other proof of vaccination to your appointment. If you do not have a copy of your CDC vaccination card, a record of your vaccination can be requested from the Kentucky Immunization Registry. The immunization team providing vaccinations will not be issuing replacement vaccine cards.
If you would like to receive your seasonal flu shot at the same time as your COVID-19 vaccination, please just let the pharmacy know when you arrive. The CDC has said it is safe and effective to receive both shots at the same appointment.
You must be eligible and sign up for a COVID-19 vaccination at ukvaccine.org to also receive your flu shot. Please note that a flu shot can be added to a COVID vaccination appointment, but a COVID vaccination cannot be added to a flu shot appointment.
