After working as a critical care nurse for several years I wanted to advance my education and learn more about the healthcare system as a whole so that I could advocate for patients. Being a staff nurse at the University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital established the basis of altruism toward various patient populations. I decided that becoming a nurse practitioner would allow me the opportunity to address the challenges of our complex healthcare system and improve patient health outcomes.
Being a nurse practitioner allows me to provide care for diverse populations, from children to the elderly. I believe the most powerful medicine is education. Providing patients with the appropriate tools to be successful should be a standard of practice and treatment.
