To protect the health of the people we serve this flu season, UK HealthCare is making temporary changes to hospital visitation policies. These changes will be effective beginning Thursday, Feb. 16. Changes to our visitation rules include:
If you have respiratory symptoms such as cough, sneezing, runny nose or sore throat without fever, wear a facemask during patient care activities. If you have these symptoms AND a fever greater than 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit, advise your manager and do not report to work.
If diagnosed with flu, do not return to work until you do not have a fever for 24 hours without using fever-reducing medications.
So we can collect data for influenza and influenza-like illness, please utilize the form when reporting employee call-ins to Employee Health.

Please share this change in visitation status with patients and their family members, other visitors and your teams.
If you have not already received vaccination against the flu, you can still do so by visiting Employee Health, 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, on the first floor of the University Health Service Building.
No appointment is necessary; wait times may vary. A UK HealthCare I.D. badge is required. It takes up to 14 days for this vaccination to be fully effective.
Remember, hand hygiene is the single most important thing we can do to prevent the spread of infections. Perform hand hygiene before entering and when exiting patient rooms. Use soap and water when leaving a C. Difficile isolation room. More tips for everyone on handwashing are available
from the CDC.
Throughout this restriction, employees who have not received a flu shot this year must wear a mask upon entering any clinical facility for as long as they are in the facility.
The Kentucky Department of Public Health is reporting influenza as being widespread throughout the state. We have noted a steady increase in the number of our patients and team members reporting an influenza-like Illness.
