• Telemedicine - Pediatric Electrophysiology

Heart rhythm abnormalities in children are different from those in adults, and young patients can benefit from the expertise of a physician specially trained in pediatric electrophysiology.

With fewer than 150 pediatric-trained electrophysiologists in the United States, expert care can be hard to find. Fortunately, Kentucky Children’s Hospital has the experts to assist you in the evaluation and treatment of pediatric rhythm abnormalities.

  • Why refer

    • Children are not just little adults, and their care is often optimized by a pediatric specialist.
    • Normal ranges in EKGs differ by age in children, and pediatric EKGs are best evaluated by a pediatric electrophysiologist.
    • A pediatric electrophysiologist can offer the most up-to-date management options for pediatric arrhythmias.
  • Refer if a child

    • Presents with palpitations or dizziness upon exertion.
    • Has a known or newly diagnosed rhythm abnormality.
    • Has an abnormal EKG.
    • Has syncope not thought to be vasovagal in origin.
    • Has Wolff-Parkinson-White pattern on an EKG.
  • Treatment options

    • Children with abnormal EKGs might require further evaluation such as congenital echocardiogram, exercise testing or other diagnostic studies.
    • Those children with documented rhythm abnormalities might require medical management or an ablation procedure.
    • We offer telemedicine services that allow some patients to remain in their home community. Pediatric cardiology patients have been seen by UK physicians via this technology since 1995. Contact Kentucky TeleCare at 859-157-6404 to find out if this service is available in your area.
  • For an appointment

If you think your child needs to see a pediatric electrophsyiologist, contact your primary care physician and ask them to refer your child by calling UK•MDs at 800-888-5533.
