  • Accidental childhood injury can be prevented

    Accidental injury is the number one cause of death among children ages 14 and under in the United States. Each year one out of every four children needs medical attention for an accidental injury.

    Safe Kids can help

    Safe Kids Fayette County is one of more than 650 grassroots coalitions in all 50 states and 17 countries, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico that bring together health and safety experts, educators, corporations, foundations, governments and volunteers to educate and protect families.

    Safe Kids Fayette County is a member of Safe Kids Worldwide, a global network of organizations dedicated to preventing accidental injury. We know our efforts are needed because as many as 90 percent of accidental injuries can be prevented.

  • About Safe Kids

    Safe Kids Fayette County is a childhood injury prevention program led by Kentucky Children’s Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky. 

    Safe Kids Fayette County was established in 1993 as Fayette County Safe Kids Coalition when the University of Kentucky Medical Center signed a contract with the National SAFE KIDS Campaign to become the lead organization.

    A Steering Committee, made up of various area community agencies and organizations, was formed and first met in May 1994. The coalition became the first local community-oriented and community-driven childhood injury prevention program in the area.
