  Construction News UK HealthCare is building a healing environment The UK HealthCare Arts in HealthCare Program will feature art throughout our hospitals and clinics. Hospital Construction Company Gets High Marks for Safety Turner Construction Company, responsible for constructing the new University of Kentucky Albert B. Chandler Hospital, was recognized for earning the industry's highest safety standard in the nation. UK HealthCare family celebrates Topping Out On Sept. 30, 2009, In conjunction with the annual employee picnic, UK HealthCare celebrated the "topping out" of the new UK Albert B. Chandler Hospital.

• 59,000 days worked to date
• 476,000 hours worked to date
• 1 lost time injury
• 1,760,700 total construction man hours for the project
• 34 contractors with more to come
• 101 construction packages
• 30 consulting architect, engineering, and planning firms
• 350,000 hours of work provided by consultants
• 4,000 sheets of plan drawings
• 3,300 concrete trucks delivering 29,500 cubic yds concrete
• 4,351 tons of steel in the building
• 1.3 million lbs. sheet metal, 3rd floor mechanical room
• 180 ton bridge across Limestone to garage

Visible changes are happening at UK HealthCare!

• Parking changes
  The hospital’s former parking garage has been taken down to make way for the new UK Chandler Hospital.
  Several floors in the hospital's new garage opened in November and all 1,600 parking spots will be available this spring.
• Free shuttle from garage
  Patients and visitors can ride FREE from the new hospital parking garage to the front door of the current hospital.
• New hospital infrastructure
  A new fence lines the perimeter of the hospital under construction where crews are working,
• Utility work
  A main power feed that primarily runs through the building site is being relocated to Cooper Drive and Woodland Avenue.
  Sixty-five percent of the lines being relocated as part of this project will be underground.
• College of Pharmacy Building 'Topped Out'
  The new UK College of Pharmacy Building, scheduled for completion in 2010, has reached its maximum height in construction. To commemorate this milestone, a ceremony was held to place the final steel beam at the top of the building. See video >
