About Radiation Medicine
As part of a dynamic university medical center, UK HealthCare Radiation Medicine works closely with other specialty areas, including medical oncology, urology, gynecologic oncology, anesthesiology (pain management) and various surgical specialties. This multidisciplinary team approach ensures excellent patient care, as well as seamless integration of services.
The medical staff includes eight board-certified radiation oncologists who bring a diversity of expertise in treating virtually all types of cancer. The team also includes skilled radiation oncology nurses, experienced medical physicists, dosimetrists (individuals who plan radiation dosage pattern) and registered radiation therapists. Social workers, chaplains, dietitians and financial counselors are also available to patients.
UK HealthCare Radiation Medicine is located on the ground floor of the UK Chandler Hospital. Patients may enter through the hospital’s main lobby and take the A elevators down one level. See a map of the first floor or get directions to the hospital.
Every effort is made to provide all services in this centralized location, minimizing disruption to our patients and their families. For more information, call the department at 859-323-6486.
Many patients treated through the department of radiation medicine are able to receive care close to where they live and work. Convenient satellite treatment facilities are located in Berea, Georgetown, Maysville, Morehead and Mt. Sterling. These facilities offer the same complete coordination of care and important support services for patients and families available at the UK Chandler Medical Center.
The patient’s physical and emotional needs are an integral part of treatment and recovery. Our department’s whole-patient approach to care includes support staff who are available to assist patients in developing supportive care plans to meet their needs. Our staff works closely with agencies such as the American Cancer Society to link patients with services in their communities.
