October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
The Comprehensive Breast Care Center offers a multidisciplinary approach to care. We have specialists trained in different areas of breast care who work together to ensure your needs are met. Breast imaging and pathology services are available in our center, and a diagnosis can often be made during the initial visit. Patients have the opportunity to meet with a surgeon, medical oncologist, radiologist and radiation therapist during one visit. Treatment alternatives and risks are discussed by the multidisciplinary team and a highly effective and personalized treatment program is devised for you.

More than 3,000 Kentuckians die of lung cancer each year, a much higher rate than any other state. For lung cancer patients who have had traditional treatments, such as surgery and chemotherapy, the chance of the cancer coming back occurs in 30 to 50 percent of the cases. Researchers at the University of Kentucky are working on a “therapeutic vaccine” to prevent lung cancer from reoccurring. For more information on the studies supporting this research, call toll free (800) 333-8874.

The da Vinci Surgical System provides three-dimensional imaging and 360 degree instrumentation with better visibility and improved outcomes over standard minimally invasive techniques for some surgeries. With this advanced technology, patients who undergo minimally invasive surgery are likely to have less pain and blood
loss. Patients are also able to return home sooner and typically recover more quickly with fewer complications. In this region only UK HealthCare offers da Vinci technology. For a free fact sheet on
minimally invasive surgery, call toll free (800) 333-8874.

It is ideal for patients under age 60 who live active lifestyles.
