The Gill Imaging Center is a nearly $10 million venture
that utilizes some of the most technologically advanced
imaging equipment available. This outpatient center
provides complete diagnostic imaging of a wide variety
of clinical conditions. Housed within the center is the
UK Advanced Cardiovascular Imaging Program. This
program is led by a team of cardiologists, radiologists
and technologists and serves to noninvasively diagnose
and assess the extent of a patient’s heart disease.
The Gill Imaging Center has two state-of-the-art
64-slice computed tomography (CT) scanners. One of
these units is a dual-source CT scanner and represents
the next generation of CT technology. It is the first
of its kind in Kentucky. This innovative technology
is approximately twice as fast as other CT machines,
capturing precise images of a beating heart in seconds,
reducing the need for heart-slowing medication while
providing exceptional images to aid in diagnosis and
treatment decisions.
Also within the Gill Imaging Center, two new magnetic
resonance imaging (MRI) units expand UK HealthCare’s
imaging capabilities. The 1.5T MRI unit is the clinical
standard for imaging the breast, chest, heart, abdomen,
bones and joints, including the spine. The 3T MRI unit
benefits from an even higher magnetic field and is
perfect for advanced studies of the brain and the entire
vascular system.
People who may benefit from our new imaging
capabilities are those who are not able to be evaluated
by other means such as echocardiography, stress test,
conventional X-ray, ultrasound or nuclear studies. In
certain situations, these new imaging technologies can
be used in place of more invasive tests.
Ask your doctor’s office to schedule an appointment at the imaging center or call 859-323-9977.
