We welcome your patients As part of UK HealthCare, the Comprehensive Breast Care Center at UK Markey Cancer Center offers advanced care options and a nationally recognized team of physicians. We offer a full range of services, from routine mammograms to second opinions and advanced treatment options for breast cancer. A team approach Markey Cancer Center offers a multidisciplinary approach to care. This means specialists trained in different areas of breast care work together to ensure our patient’s every need is met. Our team works together from a centralized location to provide patients with the highest quality treatment, without having to schedule endless follow-up appointments. We also work closely with referring physicians to ensure seamless care in your patient’s treatment. Because early detection of breast abnormalities is the best defense against breast cancer, the Comprehensive Breast Care Center uses advanced technology for early detection of abnormalities in mammograms. The R2 ImageChecker® assists our radiologists by determining areas that need to be given a closer look. This computer-aided detection system digitizes and analyzes mammograms. After our radiologists review the patient’s mammogram films in the usual manner they will then review the R2 Image Checker scan as an extra step in interpreting the mammogram. This technology has increased abnormality detection rates by as much as 15 percent. The role of research As part of an academic medical center, research plays an important role for the Comprehensive Breast Care Center. Comprehensive Breast Care Center additional services Genetic counseling and testing If you are concerned about an increased risk of developing cancer because a member of your family has cancer, you may benefit from genetic counseling. Genetic counseling can help you determine if you are at increased risk for certain types of cancer and provide recommendations for cancer detection and prevention. Patient education UK HealthCare offers a Health Information Library that helps to provide patients with answers to any questions they may have about breast cancer. Patient education also is a primary focus for our oncology trained nurses. They help patients better understand your diagnosis and available treatment options.
