Using a child safety seat correctly makes a big difference in the safety of your child. A child’s safety seat may not protect your child in a crash if it is not used and installed properly in your vehicle. Take a minute to check the safety seat to be sure.

Read and understand the safety seat instructions

• Always read the child safety seat use and installation instruction manual.
• Read your vehicle owner’s manual seat belt and child safety seat installation section.

Obtain the appropriate safety seat for your child's age and weight

• Check the manufacturer’s instruction manual to ensure your child is within the allowable weight
and height ranges.

Check the fit of your child safety seat

Test different seats before making a decision. Be sure the seat you choose fits your child and the vehicle in which it will be used.
• Choose a child safety seat that you will use consistently and correctly.
• Replace any child safety seat that has been involved in a collision.
• Pay attention to child safety seat recall notices.
