On July 14, 2010, the University of Kentucky reaffirmed its commitment to children across the Commonwealth by opening the doors to the state-of-the-art Makenna David Pediatric Emergency Center. Part of the new emergency department at UK Albert B. Chandler Hospital, the Makenna David Pediatric Emergency Center offers all the advantages of our world-class emergency department, including a separate entrance for pediatric patients and child-friendly waiting and treatment areas so that children have an emergency facility dedicated to their specific and unique medical needs.

    Child-Friendly Atmosphere

The waiting area is decorated in a child-oriented manner and features a play table, an interactive wall, and a computer play station area to keep children distracted and entertained while they wait. There is also a separate area for those who would prefer a quiet environment.

Exam rooms feature smaller beds and child-friendly decorations. Each room has a flat-screen television that can be used for patient education or entertainment.
