The Markey Cancer Center was established in 1983. The overall mission is to eliminate the morbidity and mortality of cancer through a comprehensive program of research, education, clinical care and community outreach. The clinical programs and services of Markey Cancer Center are integrated with UK Albert B. Chandler Hospital.
In July 2013, Markey Cancer Center earned a National Cancer Institute designation, making it the only NCI-designated cancer center in the state and one of only 68 such centers in the country.
The Markey Cancer Center stresses a team approach to cancer treatment. As a premier patient care and cancer research facility, our nationally acclaimed programs attract patients from every county in Kentucky and from many states across the nation.
The Markey Cancer Center is fortunate to have more than 150 outstanding faculty members to support our clinical and research missions. Our physicians and investigators work together to provide a comprehensive approach to the care of all patients who come to the Markey Cancer Center. Physicians from medical oncology, pathology, radiation medicine, radiology, surgery and other disciplines come together to discuss the best and most personalized treatment option for each new patient. We believe that this team approach to cancer care sets the Markey Cancer Center apart from other hospitals and clinics.

Cancer specialty teams work together with UK Chandler Hospital departments and divisions to provide primary patient care and support services as well as advanced specialty care with applicable clinical trials. All diagnostic services, clinical and pathology laboratories, operating rooms, emergent and intensive care, and radiation therapy services are also provided to cancer patients through UK Chandler Hospital.
Due to the complexity of cancer, Markey Cancer Center stresses a team approach to cancer treatment. A team includes outstanding physicians, a dedicated primary nurse, dietitian, social worker, pharmacist, volunteers and, if needed, a physical or enterostomal therapist. The most important members of the team are our patients and their families.
The Markey Cancer Center consists of four contiguous buildings:
• Ben F. Roach Cancer Care Facility - Inpatient Cancer Care and Outpatient Hematology Program • Whitney-Hendrickson Building - Outpatient Cancer Services • Davis-Mills Building - Chemotherapy Infusion Center • Combs Building - Cancer Research The Ben F.
