My name is Susan Smyth; I received my medical degree from University of North Carolina School of Medicine in Chapel Hill. I then completed fellowships at Mt. Sinai Medical School, New York, and University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. My clinical interests are in heart disease treatment and prevention, with a particular focus on disorders of blood clotting, such as cause heart attacks, strokes, lung and leg clots.
As a physician scientist, I am particularly well prepared to consider how we apply the scientific method to alleviating pain and suffering, extending life and promoting health. The questions I ask are: “How can we apply the knowledge that we have today, and what are our gaps in terms of the things that we don't understand?” I want to find these answers so that we can improve heart and vascular health across the United States.
