A clinical trial is one specific type of medical research study (may
also be called a clinical or research study). Clinical trials evaluate the safety
and effectiveness of drug treatments, medical devices or other therapies. They
can help doctors find new or better ways to prevent, detect or treat illness.
Reasons to consider volunteering for a clinical trial include:

- Receive medical treatment, medical attention or health counseling, often

Depending on the
rules of the study, clinical trials include people who are alike in certain ways. These rules detail the necessary characteristics to

in the study, such as the type of disease, age limit or general health condition. People
with an illness or healthy people can volunteer to participate in clinical
