Class attendance

University Health Service excuse policy

The University Health Service does not give written excuses for absences from class due to illness or injury. Class attendance is an administrative matter between faculty and student.

University Health Service clinicians will verify to faculty prolonged or serious illnesses with the student's consent. Minor problems will not be verified. Medical confidentiality precludes discussion of the specific nature of the problem without the written consent of the student.

Further, the issue of whether a student was "too ill" to attend class or take an examination is most often a subjective judgment and therefore cannot be answered by the clinician unless there were/are clear objective signs that an injury or illness absolutely precluded class attendance.
