UK Birthing Center: After delivery

Bonding time

Pregnancy emailStart out right with our Childbirth Education classes

After delivery, the mother-to-be and support person will have one to two hours of quiet bonding time. Visitors will be asked to wait in the waiting room during this special time.

If there are no complications with the mother or baby, we offer bonding time in the Labor Delivery Suite. See Care of the Baby in the Delivery Room

The new parents will have the opportunity to give the first bath with the assistance of a nurse.

We encourage 24 hour rooming-in so the mother-to-be has more time to bond with her baby.

The new baby will occasionally leave for testing, but we try to limit this to a minimum.

All visitors should wash their hands before and after holding the new baby to prevent the spread of disease.

The Birthing Center offers the Newborn Channel (6), available for patients in English and Spanish, featuring information for the new family on topics like breastfeeding, postpartum depression, infant safety and self care information.

The Birthing Center offers newborn and family photos from our Web Nursery at Our 365. These photos can be ordered and viewed by family members online or can be purchased by parents at the hospital. View new babies

Mothers who have uncomplicated deliveries should expect to stay 48 hours after a vaginal delivery and 72 hours after a cesarean delivery.
