UK Birthing Center: Admission and labor
The mother-to-be should check in at the triage desk upon arrival.
Check to see if you are in labor: see Am I in labor?
If you filled out our online pre-registration form (PDF, 838 KB) and faxed it to 859-257-7520 before you arrived at UK HealthCare for your maternity hospital stay, be sure to let the admission clerk know you have pre-registered.
During the triage process, one support person may accompany the mother-to-be. Other family and friends must remain in the waiting room.
If the mother-to-be wishes to have visitors during labor and delivery, up to four people may be present to provide support during the birthing process. Although the labor and delivery room appears more relaxed than a traditional hospital room, the health care team still must have the space required to provide safe care.
Please do not bring additional items into the room, such as food, clothing or toys.
If the mother-to-be has been admitted to the Birthing Center but is not in labor, visitors are asked to observe normal visiting hours of 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Visitors may be asked to step out of the room during testing or other procedures, but one support person may stay with the mother-to-be.
One person over the age of 18 may stay overnight on the sleep chair provided in the room.
