Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) residency program

 CCNE Accredited 2

The UK HealthCare BSN Nurse Residency Program at the University of Kentucky is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, One Dupont Circle NW, Suite 530, Washington, DC 20036, 202-887-6791.

A joint research project venture, with University HealthSystem Consortium and the American Association of Colleges of Nursing, the BSN Residency Program is a one year program for new graduates of baccalaureate nursing programs who are employed as staff nurses on clinical units. The program's focus is on the transition to professional nursing practice using Patricia Benner's theoretical framework of From Novice to Expert; Excellence and Power in Clinical Practice.

Supporting the new graduate nurse's development as a professional nurse and member of the health care team, the program is facilitated by expert nurses with special emphasis on:

  • Critical thinking skills
  • Leadership abilities
  • Communication skills
  • Research based practice
  • Patient safety
  • Professional career development

This is a one year program that provides additional educational opportunity and a supportive network of other new graduates and expert nurses. Read our BSN residency brochure > (PDF,540 KB)
