Preparing Science Professionals Symposium

A Symposium for Finding Direction in a Changing World

So, you want to be a scientist.

Now what? How? Good questions. Our Preparing Science Professionals (PSP) symposium offers a place to find answers – or to explore possibilities – about careers in the STEM sciences.

The truth is that jobs in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics are endless but not always obvious. We’re bringing together industry executives, academic researchers, communication experts and university leaders to bring purpose, clarity, and a sense of direction to the process of discovering a STEM-related career!

The UK Markey Cancer Center is partnering with the American Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (ASBMB) to bring communication and science outreach experts from across the nation to help us assess our science career paths, to show us how we can improve our communication skills, to create effective and engaging outreach activities and to be persuasive advocates for the importance of science in our world.

Our PSP symposium creates an atmosphere where science takes center stage – through interactive workshops, exciting science demonstrations, thought-provoking speakers, and face-to-face activities that allow you to explore what it feels like to be immersed in a world that speaks your “language.”

Whatever the language, underlying all aspects of the PSP symposium is this: science matters. How we communicate our science matters, too – whether to other scientists and/or to the general public.

Our PSP symposium is designed for STEM-minded students from high school juniors through college/technical school undergraduates and even to post-doctoral fellows:  Parents, guardians and other science supporters also will benefit from specially designed break-out sessions!
