When initial treatment is completed, patients are referred to the UK Markey Cancer Center Breast Cancer Survivorship Clinic. Regaining a sense of normalcy after being diagnosed with breast cancer can seem overwhelming, but in the survivorship clinic, patients are empowered to move forward with Markey’s support.
Each visitor participate in a meeting with a Markey breast cancer specialist and is given individualized care based on their specific needs. Patients visiting the clinic are given a summary of their treatment that includes:
- Specific diagnosis.
- Tumor characteristics.
- Treatment background and schedule.
- Possible late side-effects to expect.
- Support services available.
- Contact information for cancer specialists.
There are community resources and support groups that clinic breast cancer specialists can recommend as well, such as
UK Integrative Medicine and Health services and Central Kentucky's
YMCA Live Strong program.
The Breast Cancer Survivorship Clinic is located in the Comprehensive Breast Cancer Center on the second floor of the Whitney Hendrickson Building. If you wish to contact the clinic ahead of time, please call 859-323-2222.
