J. Scott Roth, MD, FACS is the Chief of Gastrointestinal Surgery and the Director of Minimally Invasive Surgery at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington Kentucky. He received his Bachelor of Science from the College of William and Mary in Virginia after which he then received his medical degree from the Medical College of Virginia. He completed his surgical training in both Surgery and Minimally Invasive Surgery at the University of Kentucky. He joined the faculty of the University of Kentucky in 2008 from the University of Maryland where he held the roles of Hernia Center Director, Surgical Residency Program Director, and Chief of Surgical Endoscopy.
His clinical interests include minimally invasive surgery with a focus in the areas of hernias(hiatal, inguinal, and ventral), gastroesophageal reflux, and achalasia, gastrointestinal surgery, and surgery of the spleen and pancreas. His research has been focused in the area of abdominal wall hernias and tissue engineering for hernia repair.
