Friday News That’s Fit to Print, Pharmacy Students Hit 100%
No one has ever accused me of having clever headlines - but for this (rainy) Friday I want to highlight a major accomplishment by our students. The UK College of Pharmacy announced that its 2009 class achieved a 100% pass rate on the national pharmacy licensure exam (NAPLEX). Two amazing accomplishments that this represents: (1) this marks 5 out of 6 years graduates of UK's program have had a perfect first-time pass rate, and (2) UK continues to stand atop all US pharmacy programs. Why would prospective students go anywhere else!
I'm sure you already knew that UK's College of Pharmacy is an international leader in pharmacy education - I followed a few of their 'fourth years' earlier this summer in Owensboro http://bit.ly/nLtjV. I know that the 514 students enrolled in the Doctor of Pharmacy program as well as the 72 students in the Ph.D. program are thrilled to be moving into the "largest academic building" in Kentucky next semester.
Faculty and staff begin moving into the new 286,000-square-foot building (below), the largest pharmacy education building in the world, in December in preparation for students to begin classes in January. The building will also include innovative and much-needed space for UK's internationally recognized researchers who are making advances leading to drug discoveries, drug design and improved delivery systems impacting potential treatments for diseases such as cancer, diabetes, alcoholism and Alzheimer's disease. Here is a great link to pictures of the almost-completed construction: http://pharmacy.mc.uky.edu/media/galleries/building.php.

The new UK College of Pharmacy building opens for classes in January 2010, and will be the largest academic space in Kentucky.
