Sanders-Brown Center on Aging Foundation Annual Dinner
Last I week I attended the University of Kentucky Sanders-Brown Center on Aging Foundation Annual Dinner featuring Dr. Pearse Lyons as the guest speaker. This event is always special because it is an opportunity to recognize and honor individuals who have made an impact across Kentucky during their life and who have truly shown that aging can be done gracefully. These awards, The William R. Markesbery Senior Star Awards, should be an inspiration to all of us that we can still do great things even at our age! I congratulate the recipients of the 2009 awards and only hope I am as active as they are one day! Our speaker that evening, Dr. Pearse Lyons, is the founder and president of Alltech, http://www.alltech.com/ an international company focused on improving animal health, which is based right here in Kentucky. He was a wonderful speaker who discussed the pillars of success and how Alltech incorporates these pillars into their culture. He said we need to focus on education and innovation as well as our brand and what it means to people, and our cause. The recipients of this year's Senior Star Awards were great examples of individuals that lived their life with these pillars in mind. Their impact on the communities across the state was significant and inspiring.
