“Second Sunday” Gets Lexington Moving

5,000 people in our community showed up Sunday in downtown Lexington for the annual, state-wide "Second Sunday" event. With everything going on in Kentucky this fall, this is one event I'm really proud of as UK HealthCare and the UK Cooperate Extension Service partnered up to sponsor this physical activity and community event in almost every county.   As you will see below, it was also a great event for photos!

Dr. Richard Lofgren, vice president for health care operations here at UK HealthCare, was a co-chair of the event.  He spent time working to promote Second Sunday both in Lexington and across the state. There were many highlights of the event Sunday, but definitely one of the coolest things for me was meeting Mark Kruger who lost 95 pounds last year on the NBC hit "The Biggest Loser." Also, Lt. Governor Dan Mongiardo and Mayor Jim Newberry attended the event to support all of those who were walking and riding to better health. But the real winners were the families who left their couches and TVs to exercise and enjoy all of the many events. A special thank you goes to the UK nurses who provided stroke screenings for the many participants and the UK College of Pharmacy students who handed out a flyer on the Top 10 questions to ask your pharmacist. Be sure and check out the picture below of the bulldog riding a skateboard - Priceless!
