UK HealthCare encompasses the University of Kentucky Albert B. Chandler Hospital, Kentucky Children's Hospital and UK Good Samaritan Hospital; Ambulatory Services which include Kentucky Clinic; Kentucky Clinic South; UK Polk-Dalton Clinic; UK HealthCare East; clinical activities of the UK colleges of Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Nursing, Health Sciences and Public Health; and multidisciplinary centers such as the Markey Cancer Center, Gill Heart Institute and Kentucky Neuroscience Institute. Also included under the UK HealthCare umbrella are cancer treatment facilities located in Berea, Georgetown, Maysville and Morehead; and 130 outreach clinics in Central and Eastern Kentucky. Mark Birdwhistell currently serves as the Chief External Affairs Officer for the University of Kentucky Medical Center. In this capacity he represents UK HealthCare at the local, state and national levels.

Prior to this position, Birdwhistell served in senior leadership roles in the private and public sector, including Secretary for the Kentucky Cabinet for Health & Family Services and Chief Executive Officer for CHA Health. He has over 30 years experience in healthcare, with specific expertise in Medicaid policy.
