Know how to evaluate employees with influenza-like illness
ILI is defined as the rapid onset of fever >100.0°F, cough and sore throat, often also accompanied by body aches, headache, nasal congestion and/or runny nose, severe fatigue, chills and possibly also vomiting and diarrhea. All health care workers with direct patient contact who develop ILI should be evaluated as soon as possible after symptoms develop. The health care worker with ILI may contact one of the following groups of their choosing in order to be evaluated:
- Internal Medicine Group
Page 859-330-3178 to speak with the IMG physician supervisor managing employee influenza encounters for that day to receive an appointment time.
- Family & Community Medicine
Call 859-323-6371 for further instructions.
- Kentucky Clinic South
Call 859-257-9800 and select Option 1 to schedule an appointment.
Note: All UK HealthCare faculty, residents, nursing staff and employees who experience an unprotected close contact exposure with an individual with suspected or documented influenza should notify their supervisor and call UK Worker’s Care Plan at 1-800-440-6285 so that they may be evaluated in the University Health Services (UHS) clinic.
See the attached memos for more information: Employee flu and ILI memo – Kentucky Clinic South, Employee flu and ILI and Memo to Department of Family and Community Medicine regarding health care workers with ILI.

New opportunity to have your voice heard
To improve communications among all levels of the organization, two e-mail addresses have been set up for employees to submit issues, concerns or ask questions of senior leadership. These submissions will be treated confidentially, even though they will not necessarily be anonymous.
Chandler-KCH@email.uky.edu is monitored by Ann Smith, chief administrative officer, and Gloria Tyler, her administrative support associate. E-mail received at this address will be sanitized and sent to the appropriate individuals for follow-up and response.
EVPHealth@uky.edu is monitored by Courtney Higdon, chief of staff to Dr. Karpf, and Shawn Crouch, chief of staff to Dr. Lofgren. Mail sent to this address also will result in follow-up and response and can be used for enterprise wide concerns.
