Combined
Internal Medicine and Pediatrics Residency Training Program
The combined Internal Medicine Residency/Pediatric Residency is a four-year training program leading to board eligibility in both specialties. The objectives are to train general physicians for practice/academic careers addressing the spectrum of illness in newborns, children, adolescents and adults. Graduates of the combined residency may function as generalists in practice and academic environments or enter subspecialty training.
The combined residency program at UK was established in 1984. The four years of training are fully integrated between the two specialties. The resident gains experience on both the inpatient and outpatient services. In addition, the resident attends each department's Grand Rounds and other educational conferences. Continuity clinics for both adults and children are integral parts of the Med/Peds training program.
This rigorous program is ideal for the resident who seeks thorough training in the fundamentals of general practice.
