UK HealthCare Ranked No. 1 in the State of Kentucky
UK HealthCare received recognition this week for something we suspected all along.
UK Albert B. Chandler Hospital was ranked No. 1 in Kentucky by U.S. News & World Report. The 2012-13 Best Hospitals rankings were released July 17.
It was cause for celebration as hundreds of our employees gathered in the hospital’s new pavilion to hear the good news.
But in our minds, the real winners are our patients.
U.S. News releases hospital rankings each year, but this is the first time the publication has ranked hospitals by state. That way, patients have a clear guide to hospitals close to home when they need to seek care for challenging and complex medical conditions.
“All of these hospitals are the kinds of medical centers that should be on your list when you need the best care,” U.S. News Health Rankings Editor Avery Comarow said in the publication’s announcement.
Aside from our ranking as No. 1 in Kentucky, we also were ranked No. 40 in the nation for orthopaedic care. And we were listed as high-performing in 10 specialty areas: cancer; diabetes and endocrinology; ear, nose and throat; gastroenterology; geriatrics; gynecology; nephrology; neurology and neurosurgery; pulmonology; and urology.
Only 140 of the 4,825 hospitals nationwide are ranked in at least one specialty, placing UK Chandler Hospital in elite company.
This year, U.S. News also adjusted the way it ranks hospitals, partially because the federal government and hospitals themselves continue to release more information about how effectively they treat patients.
A hospital’s reputation continues to account for about a third of its score. The remainder is based on verifiable clinical measurements. It’s a clear demonstration of the quality of care patients receive at UK Chandler Hospital.
We hope you’ll join us in celebrating this prestigious honor.
