We're of course proud of the sparkling 12-story patient care tower that opened last year at UK Albert B. Chandler Hospital. But it's nice to know that others are taking notice, too.

Soliant Health, a national health care staffing company based in Atlanta, has listed us in the running to be one of the country's 20 most beautiful hospitals.

The company received more than 300 nominations and narrowed the field down to 50 finalists. Voting is open right now to name the top 20 and runs through June 18. The winners will be announced July 1.

Soliant chose the finalists based on architectural style, photogenic properties, landscaping and distinctiveness.

An excerpt from UK Chandler Hospital's nomination describes it as "an amazing hospital with a comforting feel to it. As soon as I walk in the doors, I feel relaxed."

That was the idea behind the hospital's design. The focal point of the lobby is "Gingko," a stainless steel and mesh fabric sculpture by artist Warren Seelig. It is suspended beneath a three-story skylight. The first floor also includes an atrium with a soothing water feature, plus an outdoor terrace to provide a calming place for patients and their visitors relax.

Be sure to vote and help us win this special honor.
