A team from UK HealthCare was on hand March 8 as the Kentucky Horse Park dedicated its new Children's Barn. The Children's Barn consists of 20 child-friendly exhibits designed to teach kids a wide variety of equine safety information. We're especially proud of the Saddle Up SAFELY exhibit, which provides hands-on interactive questions and answers that highlight some of the basic safety principles for being safe around horses.

Saddle Up SAFELY is a coalition of 40 horse and medical organizations, led by UK HealthCare and the UK College of Agriculture Equine Program. The coalition's goal is to keep kids and adult horse riders away from emergency rooms. The exhibit at the horse park includes interesting information on which helmets are safest, proper footwear, how to approach a horse and more. In addition, Saddle Up SAFELY's safety booklets, including a children's horse safety activity booklet, are available for free. Next time you visit the horse park be sure to drop by the Children's Barn for some fun and good information. Happy trails!
