Dr. Koh Speaks to UK HealthCare
Dr. Howard Koh, Assistant Secretary for Health and Human Services,
spoke to a full crowd last Tuesday. About 400 people packed into the new
Pavilion A Auditorium and even into two overflow conference rooms to
listen to the Assistant Secretary. It was great to see such a large
Dr. Koh was introduced by his long-time friend and colleague Dr.
Stephen Wyatt, Dean of the College of Public Health. He spoke for about
30 minutes on the "Future of the U.S. Healthcare System". After his
overview, Dr. Richard Lofgren, VP of Health Care Operations and Chief
Clinical Officer here at UK HealthCare, and Dr. Steven Hester, Senior VP
and Chief Medical Officer at Norton Healthcare, joined Dr. Koh on stage
for a question and answer session, moderated by Dean Wyatt. The crowd
had some very good questions, which made for some great dialogue and a
few funny moments.
Healthcare is changing in the United States, and here at UK
HealthCare, we are committed to improving our system in this changing
environment so that our patients continue to receive the best care
possible. I could tell that Dr. Koh was very impressed with our new
building and our commitment to excellence. I want to personally thank
Dr. Koh for taking time to speak to our leaders, faculty, and students,
and I look forward to seeing him in future healthcare discussions.
