2011 KHA Health Care Leadership Conference
Last week the Kentucky Hospital Association (KHA) held their annual
Health Care Leadership Conference here in Lexington. CEOs, COOs, CFOs,
government relations staff, and many more from hospitals around the
state were in attendance. It was a busy schedule, full of many esteemed
speakers. The speaker lineup included Majority Floor Leader Rocky
Adkins, Secretary of the Cabinet for Health and Family Services Janie
Miller, Representative Jimmie Lee, Senator Julie Denton, and Senator
Healthcare in the state of Kentucky has been changing with the
implementation of Medicaid Managed Care on November 1 and with the
Affordable Care Act at both the national and state level. Each speaker
gave his or her opinion on the changes happening in the Commonwealth,
while also providing some valuable information regarding other topics
such as the state budget, the recent election, certificate of need, and
the upcoming priorities for the 2012 Legislative Session. At the end of
the session, Mark Seklecki, Vice President of Political Affairs for the
American Hospital Association, gave the members an update on health
reform from the federal level.
KHA is a professional hospital organization that "represents
hospitals, related health care organizations, and integrated health care
systems dedicated to sustaining and improving the health status of the
citizens of Kentucky." KHA President Michael T. Rust, FACHE and his
staff do a remarkable job of visiting hospitals around the state to
understand the issues that these facilities face on a daily basis.
