Have you seen the pink garbage bags and cardboard recycling receptacles that have been popping up across Lexington over the past few weeks? It turns out these recycling containers have the potential to save lives.

Businesses, organizations and schools across Lexington have been participating in the "Save the Cans" program to benefit breast cancer research at UK's Markey Cancer Center. Each can recycled is another donation in the quest to eliminate breast cancer. With approximately 1,000 of these receptacles placed throughout our community, there are many opportunities for all of us to recycle cans for a good cause.

This program is scheduled to continue over the next several months. Places such as Tates Creek High School, the KMSF/Alumni Park Plaza office buildings, the UK Alumni Association and Keeneland are all participating by placing the pink receptacles on site.

Look for cans like these around the city.
