The Child Development Centers (CDC) of the Bluegrass has been providing early childhood care for children in the Lexington area since 1958. This staple of the Lexington community is now expanding with the development of a new center located right here on UK's campus located off Commonwealth Drive near the UK Arboretum.

This new facility, expected to open in August 2012, will more than triple the number of children being provided services. It will have a capacity for 166 children from six weeks to five years old and outpatient therapy programs serving additional children. The development of this new center is a win-win for families and children of this area as well as UK.

Quality education, whether at the preschool or university level, is critical to the success of individuals and communities. I am proud that we have such an excellent institution in Lexington to start our children off in a positive way. This partnership between the CDC, UK and UK HealthCare is sure to have a lasting impact on the children in this community. After all, children are our future.
