Kentucky is a unique state with unique needs and we at UK HealthCare are committed to bettering health care in both rural and urban areas of the Commonwealth. However, many communities in rural areas of the state face especially challenging circumstances when trying to access rural health services.

To discuss these 'Pressing Issues on Rural Health,' we were thrilled to welcome Alan Morgan, MPA, Chief Executive Officer of the National Rural Health Association, a national leader in health policy development, to our campus on Wednesday, Oct. 5. Additionally, Susan Starling, President and CEO of Marcum & Wallace Memorial Hospital in Irvine, Ky., served as an adept moderator during the question and answer session portion of the program. This Healthcare Spotlight Series was presented by the law firm Hall Render Killian Heath & Lyman and the Health Enterprises Network.

A good crowd of familiar and not so familiar faces turned out to participate in this valuable session highlighting the many issues facing rural health care. I would like to thank all of the participants, speakers and sponsors of this event. This was a great chance to show off the new auditorium in Pavillion A and many of the guests were able to take a tour of our beautiful new facility.

Our rural areas deserve excellent, easy access to health care. We must continue to work together to make this goal a reality.
