This morning, Dr. Michael Karpf, Dr. Tim Bricker from the UK Kentucky Children’s Hospital, our chair of surgery, Dr. Jay Zwischenberger, along with Dr. Stefan Kiessling, Dr. Roberto Gedaly and our entire transplant team hosted a news conference to discuss UK’s first pediatric kidney transplant in over eight years.

The patient, Courtney Stroud from Carlisle, attended the news conference with her mother saying that she is ready to go back to school and of course return to a more normal teenage life. Every day we hear amazing stories like Courtney’s at UK. It is rewarding when we are able to tell the story publically about how our physicians, health care professionals and other staff work to save the lives of Kentuckians, providing world-class care close to home.

Already a few news articles are coming out today so I wanted to make sure the UK family could see the news as soon as possible.
