A Visit to the Bluegrass Kiwanis Club

It has been awhile since my last post, so for my avid readers I apologize. The External Affairs team has been on the road and we have lots to share!

Recently I was the guest speaker at my second Bluegrass Kiwanis Club meeting.  During my first appearance I discussed where UK HealthCare had been, where we currently are, and where we are going in the future. And I must say, this was a very engaged group. Not only did they get all my jokes, but they invited me back for a second time. I continue to take advantage of opportunities to tell the UK HealthCare story. Communities near and far need to know that our quality of care is outstanding. They should understand that we aren't just about bricks and mortar with the new hospital. We truly are about the people inside- the patients, families, faculty and staff. We are no longer competing with community hospitals, but are approaching the 75th percentile in academic medical centers.

Back by popular demand and the fact that they wanted to understand more about the health care reform legislation, during my second speaking engagement I discussed this very issue and the impact it will have on our medical center. There are so many mixed messages that this group just wanted to know the facts. As many of you remember from the once popular Dragnet series , "Just the facts ma'am" (one of my jokes this group actually got) For those of you that are my age maybe you will remember this show as well! Well that's what I gave them- just the facts. I won't get into the details of the legislation or my presentation, but I will say there are positives and negatives. We are no doubt going to see some changes in the near future and in the years to come. If any of you out there are interested in the detail I am happy to answer any questions you post or hit the road and speak to your group.  Below are two snapshots from the Bluegrass Kiwanis Club meeting held at the Crowne Plaza Campbell House.
