A Joker Filled Day!

UK Football Coach Joker Phillips

In the middle of such an exciting time for UK basketball it is easy to think of UK football games as a distant event, not yet on the calendar, especially since my mind is wired like an Outlook calendar. However, after Wednesday I began to think that football is just around the corner and that this year is speeding right on by at a rapid pace!

Wednesday was, as the title says, a Joker filled day- Joker Phillips that is. He graciously invited the corporate sponsors into his world Wednesday morning for breakfast and to watch a football practice. The conditioning that these players are going through right now has got to be a good indication that they are going to be unstoppable on the field. Coach Phillips was welcoming and had quite the sense of humor. I look forward to football season and wish Coach the best of luck during his first season as head coach.

Then during lunch it was once again the Joker Phillips show. He was the featured speaker at the “Step Out: Walk to Fight Diabetes” to benefit the American Diabetes Association (ADA). He won the crowd over by a few funny stories and then agreeing to join the ADA and their walk on May 22 at Keeneland Race Course. He said he would walk as long as he was joined by little Miss Deanna Howard age 5, who was diagnosed with diabetes at 8 months old. She won all of our hearts as one of the faces of diabetes that spoke during the luncheon. Step Out: Walk to Fight Diabetes is the ADA’s signature fundraising walk helping to raise money to find a cure for nearly 24 million Americans living with diabetes and to improve their lives. I encourage you to visit their website to see how you can join UK Football Coach Joker Phillips and sign up to walk on May 22.
