Fayette County Heroes
On February 11, 2010 the Bluegrass Chapter of the American
Red Cross kicked off their annual Fayette County Heroes Campaign. UK
HealthCare is proud to be a sponsor of this campaign and help support
such an important organization in our community. The Heroes Campaign is
not only a fundraiser for the American Red Cross, but it is an
opportunity to increase community awareness and recognize local heroes.
This community is surrounded by local heroes and this is an outstanding
way to way to recognize them for the work they do. UK HealthCare will be
nominating a local hero and if you or your organization would like to
nominate a hero or get involved, I encourage you to visit http://redcrosslexky.org/ for more information.
The American Red Cross does tremendous work internationally, but I
would like to point out that they do great things locally as well. The
Red Cross personnel are in are "Heroes" to many families and individuals
in our own backyard. Their website goes into detail about a variety of
ways that they help. This includes assistance during natural disasters
when they provide aid such as food, shelter, clothing, medical supplies
as well as emotional comfort. They provide emergency messaging 24 hours
a day, 7 days a week to assist our military and their families. They
also provide other services for veterans and military personnel
including helping prevent, prepare and respond to family problems
related to service in the Armed Forces. The "WHEELS" Transportation
program is also a part of our local American Red Cross. I'm sure many of
you have seen these vans that graciously provide economical and
accessible transportation to Fayette County residents with disabilities.
Congratulations to the Bluegrass Chapter of the American Red Cross
for another successful launch of their Heroes Campaign. The attendees
at the launch event are pictured below.
