Last week the Kentucky Chamber of Commerce held its Annual Chamber Day event here in Lexington.  The event was held last Thursday evening.  As you will recall, this was a very cold and snowy night in Central Kentucky.  Despite the bad weather, there was a spectacular crowd at this annual event.  Dr. Karpf and the executive leadership of UK HealthCare were in attendance. This event is always a great opportunity to hear about the legislative priorities for the Kentucky Chamber.

The lineup of speakers was quite impressive as usual. Bill Goodman the host of Kentucky Tonight on KET served as the master of ceremonies.  We heard remarks from Governor Steve Beshear; Ed Worley, Senate Minority Floor Leader; Greg Stumbo, House Speaker; and David Williams, Senate President.  David Adkisson President and CEO of the Kentucky Chamber of Commerce presented an impressive overview of the Chamber priorities which includes:

  • Improve the educational attainment level of Kentuckians
  • Modernize government at all levels
  • Promote wellness and healthy Kentuckians
  • Prepare Kentucky to successfully compete in the global marketplace
  • Expand Kentucky's role as an energy leader

Health related issues are very high on the list of concerns and priorities for the Chamber. I look forward to working with Dave Adkisson and his team as I represent UK HealthCare at the various Chamber events in the days and weeks ahead.  I encourage readers to visit the Chamber's website to learn more about their legislative priorities for the 2010 legislative session.
