UK HealthCare Awards

UK Albert B. Chandler Hospital has been ranked the No. 1 hospital in Kentucky, according to the 2012-13 Best Hospitals rankings published July 17, 2012, by U.S. News & World Report.

The orthopaedics program at UK Chandler Hospital was also recognized, ranked among the top 50 hospitals nationwide for orthopaedic care. And, UK Chandler Hospital was listed as “high-performing” in 10 specialty areas.

 UK HealthCare has grown dramatically over the past five years to meet the health needs of the Commonwealth, including our UK community. We offer many clinical and support services to our UK family, and have been recognized numerous times for our top quality medical care. Below is a list of UK HealthCare’s recognition:

2013

• 2013 Best Doctors in America 

2012

• The American Heart Association and American Stroke Association honored UK HealthCare with the Gold Plus Award. The award recognizes UK HealthCare’s commitment to treating stroke patients based on research and proven practices, which gives patients the best chance for survival and recovery.
• The National Association of Epilepsy Centers recognized the UK Comprehensive Epilepsy Center as a Level 4 Center. It is the second year UK HealthCare has received the highest level awarded by the national group.

Additional recognition

Being named Kentucky’s No. 1 hospital is just the most recent example of how UK HealthCare is leading the way in patient care.

Other examples within just the last year include:

• Doctors at the Gill Heart Institute performed the first known triple ablation surgery, used to help a heart maintain a natural rhythm.
• UK physicians implanted the first Total Artificial Heart in Kentucky. Fewer than 30 medical centers in the country are certified to perform the procedure.
• The new patient care pavilion at UK Chandler Hospital opened one of the country’s largest hybrid operating rooms – the first of its kind in the region – as well as eight new multipurpose operating rooms.
• Markey Cancer Center became the first medical center in the state to use tomosynthesis, a state-of-the-art three-dimensional imaging method, for breast cancer screening.
