LEXINGTON, Ky. (Feb. 14, 2008) − Insight Communications presented a gift of love to UK HealthCare's Kentucky Children's Hospital alongside University of Kentucky football players and coaches. The donation, collected over the past year, was $5,500. The funds were raised by Insight's customer-supported Penny-a-Day program. Afterward, the football players visited with young patients, made Valentine cards with them, and handed out autographed "UK Blue" Valentines.
Insight customers can opt in to donate a penny a day (30 cents a month) to the program on their cable bill. Insight then collects the funds and donates the full amount to the Kentucky Children's Hospital.
"To be able to deliver a check this big, this quickly, to the Kentucky Children's Hospital shows how much our customers and employees care about their community," said Dan DeYoung, Insight's district vice president in Lexington. "We hope to sign up even more customers this year. There's no easier way to do something good."
"This is a great way for so many people in the community to support Kentucky Children's Hospital said Dr. Tim Bricker, professor and chair of pediatrics, UK College of Medicine and physician-in-chief of Kentucky Children's Hospital. "All of us appreciate the good work of Insight and how visible they have made our hospital in the region."
Currently, about 1,500 Insight customers support Penny-a-Day. Insight customers can call the local Insight office at 859-514-1400 to sign up for the program.
