Charity Bike Ride Benefits Kentucky Children's Hospital and Military Veterans
LEXINGTON, Ky. (May 15, 2007) - Motorcycle riders are invited to participate in a charity bike ride Saturday, May 19. Registration is at 11 a.m. and the ride starts at 11:30 a.m. at the American Legion Man O' War Post 8 at 1230 Man O' War Place, Lexington. The cost is $10 per driver and $5 per rider. Automobile drivers and riders are also welcome. All proceeds benefit UK HealthCare's Kentucky Children's Hospital and military veterans.
"Many of our motorcyclists are parents and we want to benefit kids who are recuperating at Kentucky Children's Hospital," said Jimmy Barber, one of the organizers of the ride and member of American Legion Man o' War Post 8. "We also want to support and thank the veterans of this country. We would not have the opportunity to sponsor this charity ride without them".
The ride will begin at the American Legion and proceed out Leestown Road to Versailles, to the Veterans Memorial in Frankfort, Cynthiana, Georgetown, back by Veterans Park on Tates Creek Road, and return to the American Legion.
"I am a parent and appreciate the services provided by our Kentucky Children's Hospital," said Amber Florence, one of the organizers and a UK HealthCare Kentucky Women's Health Services nurse. "I hope all parents never have a sick or injured child, but I am so glad the hospital is here if we need it. My fellow riders are dedicated to participating in charity events such as this one and have fun with a purpose."
Free food will be available as well as prizes and auction items. For more information, call 859-361-1887.
